If you loan/give, etc., this outfit cash from the city you will have to give it to the other group pushing their project. Of course, that's not the only or best reason to oppose it. Brodie says they already have the money lined up through a line of credit, donations, etc. As it should be...

So let them fund it themselves. During this fiscal time the city should not tie up it's cas position to fund this special interest project that has dubious benefit to downtown and the City in general. Furthermore, the Corporation should be ashamed that they proceeded without the resources already raised.

The excuse that the City will earn a whopping one percent more in interest payments is outrageous as an excuse. Sounds like Citigrup buying T-bills with bailout funds to shore up their balance sheet. Only in this case the print press is on Park Avenue instead of the Fed. If the city needs to improve its ROI on its reserves, then do so, but not by picking and choosing pet projects that do more to satisfy certain egos and ruminations of an era long gone, thankfully.

Just say no to the City of Aiken being in the banking business! No to bailing out Security Federal and no to more projects headed by an ex-banker who is barred from the banking and securities industries.

Reject this Aiken Corp loan.
